3 SEO Quick Wins to Start Immediately

3 SEO Quick Wins to Start Immediately on your Website

3 SEO Quick Wins – Keywords, Titles & Meta

Today, I am going to be focusing on 3 SEO quick wins disciplines to help you with your longterm SEO Strategy. These can be implemented on any Content Management System, CMS, but I will be focusing on WordPress. In fact, WordPress is wonderful because of its plugins, and Yoast SEO is the plugin to get when you’re starting your SEO Investment.

They have a free and paid version both offering fantastic tools. This is not merely my opinion. The download stats speak for themselves with over 1 million active instals. By the Way, I have no affiliation with Yoast. It’s just a great plugin that I and many others use and promote.

Where to start on SEO

You don’t have to be using a CMS for these 3 SEO quick wins to work. You can implement these on any site. Let’s dive in. The first thing to do is understand

1.Keywords – What do we want to be found for? Understanding this will give you a strategic direction for creating content and targeting Keywords.

The best way to figure this out is to simply think about your businesses Unique Selling Proposition or USP. Quite simply, what problem are you solving for your customer? Why should they choose you over a competitor? After this, do some keyword research by seeing

  • what people are searching for
  • what keywords your competitors are targeting
  •  Find underutilised keywords to leverage for quick increases in Traffic

There are many tools to simplify this process. I use Moz Keyword Explorer to plan and also to see what competitors are doing. This is important because people search for things in different ways. If you can find some underutilised Keywords used by your buyer persona then that’s a quick win that will put you ahead of the pack. You can also use tools like kwFinder and SEMrush

When you understand who you’re reaching and why they are focusing their attention on you, your business will be in good stead to create compelling and remarkable content that draws people to your site and, with consistency, builds trust.

2. Titles – Add immediate value to your site by adding those Keywords into your Page and Post Titles

Google recognises Titles & headings as important information on your site. The Title tags are considered important because they represent what the rest of the body of information is about on the page. Titles become of incredible value then.

For example, many websites have an about us or Company section on their website, but About us doesn’t have a lot of meaning out of the context of your site. If you are thinking about your pages, do your page titles hold any value outside of the context of your website?  With language like ‘about us,’ my guess would be no.

Our website doesn’t have an ‘about us’ title but rather ‘Adelaide Digital Agency.’ This immediately gives the page Title some SEO value. Our future customers won’t be searching for ‘About us’ but they are searching for an ‘Adelaide Digital Agency.’

With Titles, Keep in mind these things…

  • Character Limits – Don’t give your titles more than 60 characters as they will be cut off on the Search Results
  • Give them some SEO Value
  • Make them Unique

3. Meta Descriptions  – an extended preview into the content of your page

The third and final quick win for today is Meta Descriptions. Meta Descriptions are the extended opportunity to compel your potential customer to click to your page from Search Results. 160 Characters of pure opportunity to add in your Keywords and persuasive copy.

These will be auto-generated on the Search Results if you don’t intentionally write them out, so don’t waste the opportunity to reinforce what you and your page content are about. You can even include a call to action within them or add in some additional contact information. Try it out and discover what is compelling to your future customer. You will know by the increase in organic traffic to your page.

How to do it?

As I said in the beginning of this article, If you are using WordPress CMS for your site then Yoast SEO is the best place to start. The free version of the product allows you with ease to focus on 1 Keyword and makes suggestions on optimising your Title, headings and content for that Keyword.
